CCSP Results 8-31

Open DYP, 2/3 W/L win by 2 in W.  Two tables!  2nd table for Losers Bracket set to free play.  Winners bracket and all in the money matches on the main table.

1st: Shane/Kitty!  And with 2 scoops of double-dip goodness to boot.  We lost our very first match to Kenny/Sammi in a knock down drag out battle royal that went 8-7 in game 3.  After that loss, though, Kitty/Shane were unstoppable.  Beat Butch/Andy, Julie/Shahyar (who had to leave early…pu55y), redemption against Kenny/Sammi, and then Ray/Kenny (who subbed in for JimW, who had to leave early…pu55y).  Kitty probably made close to 100 blocks in the course of the night, and she scored HUGE points.  Way to go, Kitty!

2nd: Ahmad/Christina.  It’s not always good to be king (seat).  Beat Butch/Andy then Kenny/Sammi then JimW/Ray, who was visiting from Florida.  Alas, they lost 2-0 then 2-1 to Shane/Kitty.

3rd: Ray/Kenny/JimW.  Ray had about 25 years of shot repertoire to choose from and foil almost every goalie.  It was good to see Jim Waterman leave the comfy confines of Maryland for a change.  See, Jim, it’s not so bad in the Commonwealth.

4th: Kenny/Sammi.  Had that huge win against Shane/Kitty in the WB then lost to Ahmad/Christina but beat Murphy/Pete in LB but then lost to Shane/Kitty (redemption).  Sammi wanted to play front in our second match, and we all know how much Kenny hates to block…

5th/6th: Pete/Murphy & Julie/Shahyar.  Welcome Murphy.  Hope we weren’t too brutal on you as the new player. 

7th: Butch/Andy.  Had so many close games but just could pull out any match wins.  Lost to Ahmad/Christina then to Shane/Kitty.  Sorry guys.

There are now 2 tables at CCSP!!! I repeat: there are 2 tables at CCSP. All you Nelly Naysayers can stick that in your pipe and smoke it.

This past Tuesday we set the 2nd table to free play while we ran a singles tournament on the “good” table. We may continue to do this or make it the losers bracket table. Come out and help us decide.

This coming Tuesday is ladies night. Ladies don’t have to pay the $5 entry fee. It will be an OPEN DYP (unrated, no A/B, just straight draw).

Results from 8-24

Singles tournament, rated & seeded. 2/3 W/L. Also, we have revived the practice of the person/team giving points in a rated event automatically getting the serve of each game. Still flip for side, though.

1st place: Andy (aka Spider). The lowest seed won! Beat Sammy (Andy had +1 hcp). Beat Jay (had +3 hcp). Beat Shane (had +1 hcp). Beat Shane in the finals in 1 match, 3-2. Somebody’s been practicing. See, bar players can become tournament players after all.

2nd place: Shane (aka Shane). Beat Jim (even). Lost to Andy in WB king seat. Beat Jay in LB to make it back to the finals, but alas didn’t have enough steam to stop Andy.

3rd place: Jay. Lost to Andy in WB. Beat Sammy (gave 2pts) in LB. Lost to Shane at meatball (gave 2 pts).

4th place: Sammy. Lost to Andy in WB (gave 1pt). Beat Jim in LB (even) then lost to Jay (got 2 pts).

5th place: Jim. Lost to Shane in WB (even) then lost to Sammy in LB (even). He didn’t want to play in the first place, and he may have psyched himself out from the start. He was a good sport, though, to play despite his desire to play just pick up games that night.

Ok, so CCSP has been kind enough to bring out two tables, so we need attendance each week.

Starting Sept. 12 (Sunday) and all subsequent Sundays, we will be running an Open BYP at CCSP (exact time still TBD).

(Still need the judge to agree with the DA's decision to drop the charges, but yes, it seems almost certainly that the *felony* charges will be dropped.  They may still face mistemeanor charges, but that's livable.)

The charges have been dropped!!  Hooray!!

I agree that the felony charges were egregious, on the verge of fascist.  Tegee and Justin are hard-working people, fathers, and good Americans, who had no malicious intentions and would have respected any cease order had it been given prior to arrest at any one of the numerous Fridays over the past decade.

What a distortion of fire safety enforcement this is!  Maybe because there is a fire station 100 ft away?  Or because it had been done for years without any injuries or accidents?  How about a warning, Fire Marshall?  Not once in 10 years - never a warning.  Felonies?  Are you kidding!?!

Big news:
CCSP WILL HAVE 2 TABLES STARTING IN AUGUST.  ETA 8/11!!! 
After the 2nd table arrives, there will be Sunday tourneys starting up for BYP and Singles play.

Tuesday 8/3 recap:
6 teams, 12 players, 134 opinions on how to run a rated DYP tournament, and 6200 different complaints during the night.  Yet, despite all the bitching and moaning, we still had a double-elimination tournament with all 2/3 matches, and the finals were over at 1:15pm.

1st: Jay/hedi.  Beat christina/sammi, shane/tami, and kenny/pete to earn king seat.  We put hedi in as a 1, and it made all the difference.  Plus, Jay was passing like crazy and scoring well enough to not drop a match all night.

2nd: Shane/Tami.  Had a 1st round bye, lost to hedi/jay in the winner’s bracket, then beat rooz/ahmad, christina/sammi, and kenny/pete to get back to the finals only to lose in 1 match (I think 3 games, though).

3rd: Kenny/Pete.  Also had a bye, then beat Kitty/Shahyar, but lost king seat to Jay/Hedi.

4th: Christina/Sammi.  Lost to Jay/hedi but beat Kitty/Shahyar.  Their match against Shane/Tami went to meatball, and Christina had scored 5 in a row, unfortunately not all in the last game.

5th/6th:
Rooz/Ahmad.  The 2nd highest rated team couldn’t overcome the point spots.  Lost to Kitty/Shahyar, despite humble after-the-fact protests of Shay-jarring of Ahmad’s passes.  Then lost to Shane/Tami.  Ahmad’s shot was off, and he gets credit for the 2nd loudest cursing during the night.  I forget who was first, but the videos may shine some light on that question.

Kitty/Shahyar.  The highest rated team couldn’t overcome the point spots.  Beat Rooz/Ahmad, lost to Kenny/Pete then to Christina/Sammi.  Sammi scored about 99.999% against Kitty, and Shahyar’s new braces seemed to giving his teeth (and pull shot) pain.

Videos are in the process of uploading.  I switched to a HD camera, so the files are bigger but hopefully the quality is better (plus we used a tripod this week, which helped a ton).  Lots of good, guest commentary this week by Jay Borji and even Rooz (the Howard Cosell of foosball commentary).

My Son is getting sick of beating me (sometimes) so we're thinkign we could start weekly tournaments...pizza...beer...near Bertuccis in Herndon...probably more interest in the Fall/Winter I'd imagine...

I'm considering going to this.  The hotel is right on Bourbon St!

It's only a F,SA,SU tourney, too, which I like.
